Their objective was to induce a systematic, orchestrated action of iconoclastic provocation that would simply sweep away the whole panoply of cultural historicism and put in its place a new aesthetic sense in tune with the unfolding Machine Age - the new Muse that would inspire undreamed - of new forms of visual, musical and literary expression. In its beginnings the Futurist movement had been of anarcho-socialist inspiration and part of its programme had been to support interventionism in the Great War and achieve Italian liberation from the Austro-Hungarian Empire. After 1918 it went through a reactionary introversion which in the end left it closely aligned with the far more ambiguous policies adopted by Fascism (and indeed in some cases inspiring those policies). But though Futurism thus eventually found itself suspended somewhere between modernism and traditionalism it continued to play the role of an extremist "left wing" within Fascism and as such was able to continue upholding the aesthetic approach to life and to keep alive the cosmopolitan spirit that at every step was completely in opposition to every racist manifestation of Fascism and its rhetorical obsession with the past. « Il futurismo, nel suo programma totale, è un'atmosfera d'avanguardia, è la parola d'ordine di tutti gli innovatori o franchi-tiratori intellettuali del mondo: è l'amore del nuovo; l'arte appassionata della velocità; la denigrazione sistematica dell'antico del vecchio, del lento, dell'erudito e del professorale; è un nuovo modo di vedere il mondo; una nuova ragione di amare la vita; un'entusiastica glorificazione delle scoperte scientifiche e del meccanismo moderno; una bandiera di gioventù e di forza, di originalità ad ogni costo; un colletto d'acciaio contro l'abitudine dei torcicolli nostalgici; una mitragliatrice inesauribile puntata contro l'esercito dei morti, dei podagrosi e degli opportunisti, che vogliamo esautorare e sottomettere; è una cartuccia di dinamite per tutte le rovine venerate.  La parola futurismo contiene la più vasta formula di rinnovamento, quella che, essendo ad un tempo igienica ed eccitante, semplifica i dubbi, distrugge gli scetticismi e raduna gli sforzi in una formidabile esaltazione.  Tutti gli spiriti novatori s'incontreranno sotto la bandiera del futurismo, perché il futurismo proclama la necessità di andare sempre avanti e perché propone la distruzione di tutti i ponti offerti alla vigliaccheria.  Il futurismo è l'ottimismo artificiale opposto a tutti i pessimismi cronici, è il dinamismo continuo, il divenire perpetuo e la volontà instancabile.   Il futurismo non è dunque sottoposto alle leggi della moda né al logorio del tempo, non è una chiesuola né una scuola, ma piuttosto un grande movimento solidale di eroismi intellettuali nel quale l'individuo è nulla, mentre la volontà di rinnovare è tutto ».  Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, Noi futuristi, Milano 1917  LA VOCE DI MARINETTI Nei primi anni '10 il futurismo si presenta come il prototipo dell'avanguardia: gruppo fondato sulla tendenziale affinità elettiva dei componenti e provvisto di una ideologia globale, artistica ed extra-artistica, abbracciante tutti i settori dell'esperienza, dall'arte alla politica, dalla morale al costume.   Luciano De Maria , alla voce Filippo Tommaso Marinetti ff Canale di comunicazione prediletto delle sue enunciazioni teoriche è il 'Manifesto', enunciato teorico che nelle mani dei futuristi assume toni incandescenti e terroristici, stampato su quotidiani, riviste, depliant, cataloghi e volantini con la precisa volontà di occupare tutti gli spazi informativi possibili.   Obbiettivo dei futuristi è la provocazione sistematica ed iconoclasta nell'ottica dello svecchiamento dal retaggio 'passatista' e dell'affermazione di una nuovissima sensibilità estetica adeguata alla nascente Civiltà delle Macchine, vista come nuova Musa ispiratrice di nuove ed inedite forme di rappresentazione visuale, musicale e letteraria.  Movimento di iniziale ispirazione anarchico-socialista, programmaticamente interventista, dopo la Grande Guerra subisce una involuzione in senso reazionario, finendo con l'identificarsi (dopo averla, in alcuni casi, ispirata) con l'ambigua politica del regime fascista, sempre sospesa tra 'modernismo' e 'passatismo': un regime di cui tuttavia rappresentò sempre "l'estrema sinistra" in chiave estetica e cosmopolita, contraria ad ogni forma di razzismo e di retorico culto del passato.     « [...] Ci opponete delle obiezioni?...
